Missouri District Junior High Retreat
March 28-30, 2008
CREATED…becoming who God wants us to be
Event update
The 2007-2008 Junior High Retreats will focus on baptism with “CREATED…becoming who God wants us to be” based on text from 2 Corinthians 5:17, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
"CREATED" is a Bible study designed to help students understand how God sees them. They probably don't see themselves the same way yet, but it's important for them to know that God is making them into something special. This series will focus on four word-pictures that give students a tangible look at the mystery of becoming the young man or woman God has created them to be.
We encourage you to encourage your young people to invite their unchurched friends that participate in your youth ministry to be part of the relationship building with each other and their Savior.
What is the cost? Still just $105 per person (youth and adults)! A deposit of $50 per person is due with your registration.
Need more information? Call the Missouri District Family Life & Youth Ministry office at (314) 317-4556 or e-mail Sue.Thompson@mo.lcms.org.
Windermere is serving only as the host facility for the Missouri District Junior High Retreat. Questions related to programming, childcare, or other such issues are the sole responsibility of the group sponsoring this event and should be directed to Jason Glaskey at (636)583-2209. |

Growing Up in Christ
“Older Adults Full of Sap & Green”
Psalm 92:12-15
|
Cross Pointe is located in Rocky Mount, Missouri, 13 miles south of Eldon, Missouri at the end of Y Highway, in the beautiful Lake Ozark area.
Presenters & Workshops:
Rev. Terry Dittmer will be our keynote speaker as well as a workshop leader. Pastor Dittmer has been with LCMS youth ministry 28 years, the last six as director. He has written six books and 45 songs and hymns
Keynote: “Full of sap? It’s Not Easy Being Green?”
When fashionistas say blue is the new black and brown is the new red, what does God mean when He says “green” is the new “old?” David the Psalmist wrote about it. Kermit the frog sang about it. And you probably think about it - even just once - every day. What does it mean to “GROW old.”
Workshop: “Multiple Shades of Green”
We will look at how we can cross generational lines to build relationships with those younger and those older than ourselves. Dialogue will continue from the keynote presentation as we explore how the body of Christ is so much about relationships and intergenerational.
Rev. Walter Schoedel, Director of Church Relations for Lutheran Senior Services.
Workshop: AH-HA! Ambassadors for Health Hope and Aging
This workshop will provide a model to assist older adults and leaders in the congregation to become AH-HA people.
Rev. Dr. Scott Seidler serves as Senior Pastor of the 3,000 soul Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Missouri.
Workshop: “Come On Get Sappy”
Getting older may entail bones becoming brittle, cartilage getting stiff and joints creaking like a barn door in winter. God’s children are not exempt from the frailty of the flesh. But we are baptized Christians and that means we have a power at work in us that provides abundant life regardless of age. In this presentation, Pastor Seidler will help you celebrate a God who through Christ makes everyone grow. Bring a tissue and avoid too much mascara!
Rev. Jeffrey Sippy, Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Springfield
Workshop: Older Than What: Passing the Baton and Blazing the Trail
Age is relative: We’re all pretty young compared to Noah and Methusalah, and younger still than our Eternal Father. In “Older Than What?” we will celebrate the uniqueness of being the children of God by virtue of our Baptism. We will also liken our witness and nurture of others to that of a relay racer passing the baton to those who follow. Finally, we see ourselves as the ambassadors of Jesus we are, blessed to blaze the trail for each generation to come. You will be encouraged. |

General Schedule |
In keeping with our 2004 Missouri District convention’s number one goal of mission outreach, every congregation a mission outpost and all of us being missionaries, your Senior High Gathering committee selected the theme “Hearts on Fire…Light in the Darkness” based on text from 2 Cor. 4-6 – “For God, who said, ‘Let light shine out of darkness,’ made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”
Being “Lights in the Darkness” we want to invite and encourage everyone attending to invite_and_bring their unchurched friends, classmates, neighbors and relatives. The gathering will serve as outstanding opportunity for them to experience and celebrate what our faith is all about with 500+ Lutheran youth and their family group leaders. It will also encourage them to build relationships with your youth ministry and your congregation as you prepare to attend.
To welcome them and be full participants in the entire gathering, our closing worship service will be a service of celebration (without communion) and sending everyone to be “a Light in the Darkness.”
The registration cost for this year’s Gathering is still just $129 per person. Registrations must be received by the District Office by June 6th. Space is limited, so register as soon as possible.
This year, we are excited to have as our main presenter Rev. Bill Yonker, a nationally known speaker (did you see him at the 2007 National Youth Gathering?) who loves to travel around the country talking to people about the Lord Jesus and also serves as pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church in East Dundee, Illinois.
Music for this year’s Gathering will be by Billy Buchanan and Fusebox.
Also included in this year’s program are: worship coordinator, Rev. Jerry Brownlee and emceeing the event: Ron Wheeler, Missouri District Board of Directors Youth Advocate and the Missouri District LYF Team.
Share a weekend with over 500+ young people from every corner of Missouri! We look forward to being with you as you join us with Hearts on Fire…Light in the Darkness at Missouri State University in June! Choosing to say yes to this exciting ministry event is the first step.
Pray about it and then – go for it! |
