NEW IRS standard mileage rates going into effect July 1, 2008:

• Standard Business:  58.5 cents 
             (8 cent increase from the first six months of 2008)
• Medical and moving expenses: 27 cents  
           (8 cent increase from the first six months of 2008)
• Charitable: 14 cents (no change)

With respect to any employee's mileage allowance, these rates apply to payments that are BOTH

1)  paid on or after July 1, 2008, and

2) with respect to transportation expenses paid or incurred by the employee on or after July 1, 2008. 

Therefore, advanced allowances paid before July 1, regardless if the transportation expense is incurred on or after July 1, are subject to the lower rates in effect before this change becomes effective.

Mileage Rate effective January 1, 2008 - June 30, 2008:

The standard mileage rates for the use of a car (including vans, pickups or panel trucks) is:

• 50.5 cents per mile for business miles driven;
• 19 cents per mile driven for medical or moving purposes; and
• 14 cents per mile driven in service of charitable organizations.

 

Postage Rate:

On May 12, 2008, the Postal Service adjusted prices for mailing services - First-Class Mail, Standard Mail, Periodicals, Package Services, and Special Services.

A First-Class Mail stamp is 42¢. Customers can continue to use the Forever Stamps that they purchased prior to May 12 at 41¢, even after the price change. Please visit www.usps.com for more information.
