| In a neighborhood where Starbucks won’t go, Christ in the City Lutheran Church operates as a coffeehouse during the week. Crave Coffeehouse/Christ in the City Lutheran Church is located right on the edge of Saint Louis University’s (SLU) Medical Campus. The coffeehouse is an excellent place throughout the week for students to spend time with friends, do homework between classes or just relax. It has also been a place where something else has happened: life change. As relationships are built with the students at Crave Coffeehouse, more and more are coming into a relationship with Jesus!
Christ in the City’s mission statement, the whole reason why we exist is to make fully caffeinated disciples of Christ, starting with those living and working in and around Saint Louis University (SLU) as we offer peace, coffee, and more!
Our goal is that all students, faculty, staff at SLU, as well as the community that surrounds SLU would come to know the peace that is offered in Christ, would engage themselves in community with things like worship and small groups, and then would go onto more in life…to serve the outside world and be leaders in sharing the Gospel that Christ has entrusted to us.
Christ in the City has officially been worshiping weekly for over 2 years now on Saturday nights at 5:30PM. The service is geared towards a college audience, although there are a wide variety and range of people who come and are changed by the life-altering Gospel that is preached every week!
In addition to Saturday worship, Christ in the City is always looking ahead and never settling. That’s why this year, even being a somewhat new congregation, we at Christ in the City decided to offer an additional worship service on Tuesday nights specifically geared to college students on SLU’s Main Campus.
Two Friday Night’s per month at Crave Coffeehouse we offer FREE Live Music from very talented local musicians. Four to five bands play on these selected Fridays from 8 to 11PM. Crowds consistently reach over 100 per Friday Night and the energy and atmosphere are awesome. Friday Night’s serve as a great place to build relationships with those who wouldn’t normally come into a church!
As a campus-minded congregation, we know that many of our members will graduate and move away each year. Our ministry will always be somewhat in transition in the sense that we will be reaching out to new students and faces each year. Continuing to try to reach out to this campus will take outside funding, creativity, resources, and most importantly, the hand of God working through us!

A Good Start 2 Daycare Learning Center provides a safe and happy place where children are prepared for elementary school. A Good Start 2 is setting a standard for quality low cost childcare and is a means to develop relationships with the children’s families, as well as connecting them to Christ!

was founded in 1868 on the outskirts of St. Louis by German farmers. Now named Christ in the City, it sits in the heart of Midtown St. Louis, all but surrounded by the campus of Saint Louis University. The front door opens onto the SLU Medical Campus quad; the back door to an urban community in transition.
